Embodied yoga

 Embodied yoga

An Embodied yoga practice connects the mind with the body to help build self awareness and can be an empowering practice that can create a lot of freedom, space and growth.
It encourages you to experience yourself in the present moment.

I am guiding you through this fluid practice with creative flows encouraging you to move in a way that feels nourishing for your whole being.
Embodied yoga provides you with the freedom to explore and be curious and playful. We will move through many different ranges of motion working with flexibility, strength and mobility.

Embodied yoga can strengthen your connection with yourself, allowing you to feel, experience and trust in what your body is telling you, so that you can move more intuitively and mindfully through the practice.  The focus is about what the pose feels like, not what it looks like, so I encourage you during a practice to be your unique individual self.  There is no right or wrong, we are not striving for perfection, we are tuning into our bodies intelligence and listening to that wisdom.

Yin yoga

Yin yoga is a slower paced style of yoga and poses are often held for 2-5  minutes using various yoga props for support. Yin yoga targets the deeper tissues of the body, our connective tissues-ligaments, joints and deep fascia networks of the body.

Energetically yin yoga can improve the energy flow, enhancing the flow of chi in the organs.

Every class is different, but I often weave breath work, mindfulness, sound, poetry and meditation into these yin sessions to invite space and a sense of peace in to the body, mind and heart. I also often plan my classes around different meridians (energy pathways) and offer acupressure points to enhance the experience. Yin yoga can give you the space to turn inwards and tune in to your inner landscape, your breath, sensations, emotions.

The practice of yin yoga is based on ancient Chinese philosophies which believe that there are pathways of Qi (energy) that run through the body. By holding these poses, we are opening up any blockages and releasing the energy to flow freely.

Yin yoga
Restorative yoga

Restorative yoga

The practice of Restorative yoga encourages deep relaxation. It can be a very nourishing and soothing practice. Poses are held for a longer period of time for 2- 20minutes. The poses are completely supported by an array of props creating a feeling of comfort, safety, support and relaxation. This practice can have a wonderful balancing effect on the whole system including the mind, breath, body and emotional self. It also encourages the nervous system to drop into a parasympathetic state.

Throughout a restorative class or workshop I often offer calming breath work practices, sound healing, poetry,  calming soft touch adjustments and yoga nidras, but mostly I hold space for you to rest, to drop in, to release, to simply be as you are in the moment.

Breath

Breathing in, I know I am breathing in. Breathing out, I know I am breathing out.

Breathing in, I notice my in- breath has become deeper. Breathing out, I notice that my out-breath has become slower….

Breathing in, I calm myself. breathing out, I feel at ease.

Breathing in, I smile. breathing out, I release.

Breathing in, I dwell in the present moment. breathing out, I feel it is a wonderful moment.

Thich Nhat Hanh

Slow flow

Slow flow

Slow flow is a gentle, slower paced style of yoga, giving you time to move through the practice mindfully and with awareness. It is a soft and fluid practice, focused on softening, releasing, creating space, dropping more into yin energy as opposed to yang energy and can often be quite a meditative practice.

I encourage you to move slowly with a connection to the breath and offer the time and space to feel into each pose.

Chair yoga/Senior yoga/accessible yoga

Chair yoga and Senior yoga is a style of yoga that makes the entire practice more accessible to everybody. It is a gentle and slower paced style of yoga.  Poses can be done seated on a chair and we can also use the chair for support in standing balance poses. It just makes the practice more accessible to all ages, bodies and abilities. This style of yoga can be a really great way to improve strength, mobility, flexibility and balance
